Commercial Solar in Ras Al Khaimah

SolarPanelUAE is an independent lead-generation platform. We connect Ras Al Khaimah businesses with installer partners for commercial solar assessment, utility coordination and proposal review.

In Ras Al Khaimah, commercial requests can include Al Hamra Industrial Zone (RAKEZ), RAK Free Trade Zone. These named zones can be considered for an assessment; roof, structure, load and utility requirements remain property-specific.

Commercial solar in Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah’s larger industrial occupiers have a route to on-site generation that did not exist before September 2024. EtihadWE’s Distributed Solar System opened on 17 September 2024 and covers the emirate alongside Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. The mechanics differ from Dubai’s Shams Dubai in ways that matter on a spreadsheet, so a proposal drafted for a Dubai unit cannot simply be retitled for a RAK one.

Industrial zones in Ras Al Khaimah

Al Hamra Industrial Zone, run under RAKEZ, and the RAK Free Trade Zone account for a large share of the emirate’s warehousing and light manufacturing, and they dominate the enquiries we route. Treat them as pointers to where demand comes from, not as evidence about any individual unit. Roof condition, structural capacity, shading and load shape get inspected on site; they are not inherited from a zone.

The EtihadWE connection route

EtihadWE meters these sites twice. One register captures what the property draws from the grid, a second captures what the array sends out, and the utility reconciles the pair once a month. Credit still standing when the calendar year closes is forfeited rather than carried into the next. The programme as a whole is capped at 20 MW across the four emirates EtihadWE serves, released to whoever applies first, and a NOC from Ras Al Khaimah Municipality is part of the paperwork. EtihadWE does not run a self-service application portal comparable to the one DEWA offers, so the installer partner makes the submission.

Reading the meters before fixing a capacity

Start from the load the site actually consumes, because that is the portion of output whose value does not depend on the credit rules. A plant running continuous process equipment, kilns or chillers through daylight hours absorbs most of what it generates. An office, or a warehouse whose shift ends at dusk, does not, and the partner should be asked to state plainly what share of modelled output is consumed on site and what share is exported. Anything exported and still unoffset when December closes is written off, and that should appear in the proposal as a line item rather than being averaged away across the year. Structural capacity, usable area once setbacks are stripped out, and safe access for cleaning set the physical ceiling.

FAQ

FAQ — Commercial Solar Assessment in Ras Al Khaimah

How does the two-meter arrangement work for a factory floor? +

One meter registers what the site draws from the grid and a second registers what the array exports, and EtihadWE compares the two monthly. Ask the partner to explain which reading the proposal relies on and how much of the modelled output is consumed on site rather than sent out.

Does the 20 MW EtihadWE cap affect a project in Ras Al Khaimah? +

Yes. The cap is aggregate and shared across Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, with capacity allocated first come first served. Ask the partner to confirm what remains before the design is committed.

Can a facility inside a RAKEZ industrial zone apply? +

Yes, a commercial property in a Ras Al Khaimah free zone or industrial zone can be put forward for assessment. A Ras Al Khaimah Municipality NOC is part of the process, and the installer partner should state where it falls in the sequence.

What happens to credit at the end of the year in Ras Al Khaimah? +

Credit that has not been offset against consumption is cleared when the calendar year closes rather than carried forward. Ask the partner to show the annual import and export balance so you can see whether that applies to the site.

Does a Ras Al Khaimah commercial property need a municipality NOC? +

Yes, a NOC from Ras Al Khaimah Municipality forms part of the paperwork. Ask the partner to state who obtains it and how far through the process it has to be in hand.
