What is Shams Dubai?
Shams Dubai (شمس دبي, meaning “Sun of Dubai”) is an initiative launched by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to encourage building owners to install solar panels and connect them to the grid. It is a cornerstone of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which targets 75% clean energy by 2050.
How net metering works under Shams Dubai
With net metering, your solar system feeds electricity into your home first. Any excess power you generate is exported to the DEWA grid, and you receive credits on your account. When your panels aren’t producing (at night, for example), you draw from the grid and offset it against those credits.
